While I’ve watched Eighteen a lot, it seems to never get old. I guess it’s one of my favorites. If you haven’t seen it, or just haven’t watched it in a while – why not watch it now? Of course you can watch it later – for free – check the image to see how. It’s the best way I’ve found

Basically it’s about:
In this poignant, soul-searching drama, Pip Anders has just turned eighteen and finds himself estranged from his family and living homeless on the streets. As he attempts to sort out his young life with the help of a local priest (Alan Cumming), he listens to a tape left to him by his deceased grandfather Jason (voiced by Ian McKellen), telling of his own experiences at age eighteen trapped behind enemy lines in battle. Although decades apart, the two young men must face their difficult parallel lives, each on an uncertain journey of redemption and self-discovery.

Cedric the Entertainer transforms Jackie Gleason’s classic blu-collar sitcom The Honeymooners into an urban comedy. New York City bus driver Ralph Kramden (Cedric, Barbershop) lives in volatile bliss with his wife Alice (Gabrielle Union, Bring It On). His best friend Ed Norton (Mike Epps, Next Friday) and his wife Trixie (Regina Hall, Scary Movie) live upstairs in a cramped, dingy apartment building. Ralph and Ed get into constant trouble du to their brainless get-rich-quick schemes, including buying a Pullman train car and trying to race an abandoned greyhound–schemes which only serve to lose the money they need to buy a charming duplex on a tree-lined street. Unfortunately, there’s a sleazy real-estate agent (Eric Stoltz, Pulp Fiction) who’s wooing the little old lady who owns the property, so it’s a race to see if Ralph and Ed can raise the money before the bill of sale gets signed. It’s a shame that so many cliches had to die so that their hollow, lifeless corpses could be put on display in this formulaic excuse for a movie. Also featuring John Leguizamo (Moulin Rouge), who rattles off a string of one-liners that almost become funny through sheer velocity. –Bret Fetzer

If you haven’t heard of Tootsie – 25th Anniversary Edition, here’s a quick plot:
One of the touchstone movies of the 1980s, Tootsie stars Dustin Hoffman as an out-of-work actor who disguises himself as a dowdy, middle-aged woman to get a part on a hit soap opera. The scheme works, but while he/she keeps up the charade, Hoffman’s character comes to see life through the eyes of the opposite sex. The script by Larry Gelbart (with Murray Schisgal) is a winner, and director Sydney Pollack brings taut proficiency to the comedy and sensitivity to the relationship nuances that emerge from Hoffman’s drag act. Great supporting work from Teri Garr, Dabney Coleman, Charles Durning, Bill Murray, and pre-stardom Geena Davis. But the film finally belongs to Hoffman, who seems to connect with the character at a very deep and abiding level. –Tom Keogh
