This is a great movie! Probably one of my favorites. Jason Alexander does a great job, If you’re a fan, and you haven’t seen this movie – watch it now!

Don’t know what it’s about?

Jason Alexander’s vocal performance as the hambone father of Louie, a mute trumpet swan, is quite simply the most entertaining element of Trumpet of the Swan, an animated version of E.B. White’s children’s novel. Given to long-winded speeches and flamboyant displays (Alexander’s extended “death scene” after his character is knicked on the wing is a hoot), the former George Costanza’s hot-air waterfowl partially salvages this oddly unmoving family feature. The story concerns the silent Louie (his thoughts are spoken by actor Jeffrey Schoeny), who suffers the ridicule of other swans but communicates a depth of feeling by playing a brass horn. The restless script has difficulty developing a coherent emotional rise; director Richard Rich (The Swan Princess) would have done well to cut back on the number of discrete episodes that rush by with dizzying, graceless speed. Joe Mantegna signs on as the voice of a big-city scoundrel who signs Louie to an exploitative music contract, while Mary Steenburgen plays Louie’s mother, and Reese Witherspoon speaks for the hero’s tru love. –Tom Keogh

Judy is presented in a wide variety of song styles, from up-tempo jazz tunes (”Who Cares?,” “From This Moment On”) to heartbreaking ballads (”All Alone,” “When Your Lover Has Gone”), along with many hits from Broadway and Hollywood (”Just In Time,” “Hey, Look Me Over,” “As Long As He Needs Me,” “Too Late Now.”) You’ll see Judy (in a glamorous succession of gowns by acclaimed designers Ray Aghayan and Bob Mackie) at the peak of her talent and career in a stunning, concert type presentation of her best series solo songs. *** watch NBA Dynasty Series – Los Angeles Lakers – The Complete History!! ***

Packing a whopping 22 hours of content on five double-sided discs, Los Angeles Lakers: The Complete History is a treasure trove for fans of the purple and gold. In fact, even the ambitious title doesn’t do the set justice, as the opening 2002 documentary traces the franchise to its Minnesota roots and a vintage 1953 feature shows the game’s first dominant big man, George Mikan, in action. The glitzier West Coast years–Wilt, West, Magic, Kareem, Shaq, Kobe, et al.–are the primary focus, of course, and this set, one of the first two entries in the NBA Dynasty series (along with the slightly less-substantial Chicago Bulls: The 1990s), collects seven of the highlight videos that were released on VHS (2000 and 2002 were also on DVD), which provide a time-capsule look at each of the championship seasons.

The real joy of the set, however, is nine NBA playoff games presented as they were originally broadcast and almost in their entirety. They last about 90-100 minutes with TV introductions and post-game interviews, but minus halftime, commercials, and some slower moments. The games include such absolute classics as the game in which rookie Magic Johnson started at center in place of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and the 1987 “baby hook” game against the Boston Celtics. If you’re used to watching current NBA games you might be tempted to just skip to the end, but it’s surprisingly rewarding to watch the game develop, to watch the game’s superstars strut their stuff (or see a couple of 1972 reserves named Phil Jackson and Pat Riley), and to observe how radically the sport has changed over the years. Variable picture quality and technical glitches are unavoidable (even the 2002 game looks washed out), but this is the first time complete or nearly complete NBA games have been available in the home-video era, and they probably still look better than the VHS tapes you’ve been saving over the years. Yes, it’d be easy to argu about which games from the Lakers’ long history should have been included, and the highlight videos don’t have a ton of replay valu, but the NBA Dynasty series is a major milestone in archived sports. –David Horiuchi

North of the border, Mendoza’s American partner, Mr. Sterling, gives work to Raphael and other illegal migrants but also ruthlessly exploits them. Rafael does not adapt to his new life in the U.S., he lives in fear of being deported and faces exploitation and constant discrimination. Ultimately, he returns to Mexico where he has a final confrontation with Mr. Sterling.

Basically it’s about:
You’ve got to give credit to the Hollywood Knights. They may be crass, juvenile, sex-mad pranksters, but they have an open-door policy: nerds and jocks alike are welcome, as long as they show proper disrespect for authority. The Hollywood Knights, a minor 1980 cult comedy poised somewhere between the innocent nostalgia of American Graffiti and the raunchy humor of Animal House, chronicles the antics of a practical-joking high school gang on Halloween night, 1965. In tribute to the last night of their favorite hangout, a Beverly Hills drive-in marked for destruction by the snooty Chamber of Commerce, the gang’s court jester Newbomb Turk (Robert Wuhl in his film debut) leads the Knights in an all-out assault on the forces of law and order, conformity, and good taste. Nestled in the parade of toilet humor, fart jokes, mooning rebels, and topless co-eds, however, are the ruminations of the end of an era: the times they are a changin’. The doo-wop and surf soundtrack gives way to Motown, the Mamas and the Papas, and the Byrds as high school sweethearts Tony Danza and Michelle Pfeiffer weather the transition from puppy love to adult romance and Vietnam looms on the horizon. It’s a schizophrenic film, bopping from juvenile anarchy to thoughtful drama and back again with a sloppy but energetic drive and a rowdy rebelliousness that will never be accused of sensitivity, decency, or dignity.
