The Bible – Esther

If you’re into Louise Lombard like I am, you’re going to love this movie!
The biblical story of Esther, the Jewish woman who saved her people when they faced annihilation, is told in this production featuring British actress Louise Lombard in the title role and F. Murray Abraham as Mordecai, Esther’s cousin and foster father. As a girl living under Persian rule, Esther was essentially kidnapped and taken into the harem of the king, Xerxes. The king, taken by her beauty, made her his qUn, and as dramatized in the film, she found herself involved in a delicate balancing act between the ruling Persians and her own Jewish people. While this is a fairly elaborate production with a solid supporting cast, it proceeds at a relaxed pace and never quite takes off dramatically. But it does provide a solid telling of Esther’s story, and if considered as something of a docudrama, it’s successful. The story is clearly told of how the king’s chief minister, Haman, had hoped to see the Jews annihilated, but thanks to Esther’s intercession the Jews were able to defend themselves and destroy their enemies (events which are celebrated at the Jewish Feast of Purim). The production does provide much of the period flavor of ancient life, and the major facets of the story and portrayals of the characters coincide with biblical accounts. –Robert J. McNamara

If you haven’t heard of Mother, Jugs & Speed, here’s a quick plot:
Bill Cosby, Raqul Welch and Harvey Keitel head an all-star cast in this wildly inventive comedy about an ambulance service funny enough to cause their own medical emergency. To beat out competing ambulance services, an ace driver (Cosby), an office secretary/paramedic (Welch) and a suspended cop (Keitel) resort to some outrageous behavior to help people in distress. They’re a crew whose condition is even more critical than their clients!

If you like Raqul Welch, then you’ll LOVE Mother, Jugs & Speed! Watch it for the first time, or just watch it again! I really enjoyed this movie.

This is a great movie with Angela Benjamin, Akasha Sjolin, Jeffrey Charlton, Thomas Alan Beckett, Ken Johnson (XI)

Basically it’s about:
A drug addict gives birth to a premature crack baby and abandons it in a dumpster. Helpless and left for dead, the dumpster baby begins a surreal journey as it encounters a wide array of bizarre characters, including an adulterous surgeon, a vicious street pimp, a mentally handicapped garbage man and a crack-addled hooker with a heart of gold. A modern grindhouse classic in the tradition of “Street Trash” and “Saw”.

While I’ve watched Dumpster Baby a lot, it seems to never get old. I guess it’s one of my favorites. If you haven’t seen it, or just haven’t watched it in a while – why not watch it now? Of course you can watch it later – for free – check the image above to see how. It’s the best way I’ve found
